SISLT is excited to welcome Dr. Sarah Buchanan to the LIS faculty. She comes from the University of Texas at Austin, where she has completed her Ph.D. in Information Studies at the School of Information and has worked as an archivist in the Department of Classics. Sarah received her B.A. with Distinction in Classical Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and an MLIS from UCLA’s Department of Information Studies.

Dr. Buchanan studies the creation and curation of data in the humanities, with a focus on the storytelling potential of archaeological collections. She works at the intersection of museum studies, archival science, digital classics, and community informatics. Her research and teaching interests examine professional practices, history, and provenance issues in the cultural heritage arena. She is active in the Society of American Archivists as a member of the Committee on Education, and serves as Reviews Editor for Digital Humanities Quarterly.

Dr. Buchanan’s research interests are data curation, museum archaeology, technology in libraries, digital humanities, digital classics, and archival studies.
